Bought my dream bike for my first bike.

I only passed my bike test in November, after passing my CBT in October, and bought this beauty the very next day.

I found this forum looking for an answer to the GPS mount problem. I haven't quite figured that out yet, but you've already got me spending my hard earned money!! lol!

After all the references to the Utopia Backrest, I've got one being shipped across the Atlantic as I type this. I'm not looking forward to taking a knife to my perfectly good seat, but I am looking forward to a bit of back support.

So thank you for your input. I'm very excited to get some miles under my belt on this machine.

Thanks. Because it's difficult to get stuff for them nowadays, I made sure I got one that had heated grips, a windscreen and the luggage frame. This one also had a top box but I had to buy the panniers myself. I'm excited for it to have a backrest too.

It's got about 16 thousand km on it.

I shall certainly try to remedy that!! Now that the weather is improving.

Although I had a bit of a shock this morning. After paying nearly £300 for the backrest and delivery, I woke up to this...

Quick update... I got the backrest fitted. I do think it makes it a lot more comfortable having support.

Although it makes my bike much less economical, because my 30 minute ride home, from work, can take up to two hours now it's more comfy and the weather has improved. lol

I am wondering if people here have long distance experience on their DN-01? I know it should be reliable because it's a Honda, etc, but should it do hundreds and hundreds of miles in a day without having problems? For example, a lot of my family live about 1000 miles away and I'd like to visit them on it.

And will it do 150 miles on a tank more often than not? So I can plan stops? I haven't been able to tested it reliably yet, but I have noticed that the fuel gauge will go from 6 lumps to 2 lumps in about 20 miles but then stay on 2 lumps for 100 miles. 🙄

I was pleased when I found out my bike still has the original tool kit which contains the preload adjuster tool for the rear. I'm a large lad so reckon I need to stiffen it up a bit.

While I'm on stuff my bike has... What is one of these? It's clipped in under the seat..

Anyway... I am still a bit frustrated by the handlebar trim. It makes the bike look much sexier but I have a camera and a Garmin sat nav that I'd like to attach somewhere but they won't fit.

Oh, and I went to my local Honda bike dealer the other day and asked about service prices for my bike and they said it's too old and rare so they're not interested.... so there's that too! I've got tools and used to do mechanics but I really didn't enjoy it... Mainly because it's dirty and I'm lazy. But I may have to do it myself. Or find someone more interested.

Have I made a mistake falling in love with this bike?

(PS... Sorry for long, random, rambling... It's all very new to me, and I'm also waiting for food! I hope you are all well.)

Seems a bit harsh. But sorry I guess. I have been over most of the manual. That's how I was made aware of the tool for the suspension and stuff (as I've never owned a bike before) and how I knew the flashing hyphen was a fault indicator and what pressure to put in my tyres, but something about looping my helmet to the bike wouldn't have stuck out as something to pay attention to, I'm afraid. The same as I remember something about a U lock being able to go in the back of the bike somewhere, but I didn't delve deeper because I won't be doing that so I don't know the details... So when I found that item under my seat I inadvertently thought it wouldn't hurt as a throwaway question in the midst of my post to ask what it was. And thank you again to Michael for just answering and being friendly. But, in asking about the helmet loop, it seems I was clearly in the wrong. I now see that I shouldn't have asked at all.

Unfortunately the manual didn't help with regards to knowing if my bike should regularly achieve 150 miles on a tank or the fact that the fuel gauge goes down so fast but then sticks at 2 lumps, where to attach a sat nav or camera and it certainly didn't tell me that my local dealer won't service the bike anymore. The first of which I DESPERATELY need to know before embarking on a long journey, so I can plan stops for fuel! So, stupidly, I thought asking people who actually own the bike and like it enough to create/join a forum dedicated to the bike actually WAS doing my homework!! How silly I was. So once again, I apologise. I'm sorry you had to endure that. I'll leave you be.

All I was trying to convey was to agree with you Freddy and for Al to read the manual, NOTHING MORE! I've been 'giving advice' on the Dino for 12 years now and have had numerous people give BAD ADVICE with NO research on their part OR they had NO IDEA what they were talking about. (Primarily the mechanics of the bike) I have LEARNED a lot about the Dino and only want people to get the RIGHT skinny! That being said .... I DO apologize IF I have offended anyone over these years! We ARE a tight community of DN-01 riders with very little support from Honda.
