Went out again today, about 180 miles round trip, on a Freedom Poker Run in north Florida. Bike handled well in and out of traffic, I had a blast! Rode with a Honda VFR 800, matched move for move except for the triple digit part, I should know better! Did get more attention ("what is that?") at the various stops though. Speed isn't everything!!

Rode with a few friends, stayed pretty much in town due to the rain possibility. Found a really nice curvy road with overhanging trees to ride through. Ended up at Shoney's for lunch and good conversation. On the way back home, rode I-295 @ WELL above the posted speed limit. The bike handled it well in heavy traffic .... no shifting necessary! He He He

When on a ride Sunday. It was suppose to be a cruiser/sportbike ride with some friends (only sportbikes showed up). Rode to St Augustine via A1A @ speeds OVER the limit, like that's a surprise! And I wore that same damn jacket that caused me to lose a pair of sunglasses. You would think that I would learn, Sunday's loss: a cell phone, a knife and 2 pens. I should have know better. Went back to look for said items, NADA! Considering the weaving and speeds we were going .... I launched them GOOD! Seriously thinking of sending the jacket to the hereafter/burn the thing! Other than that, it was a good ride. Didn't get to eat lunch though because I was so pissed!

We had a great ride up thru Pennsylvania and stayed the weekend in Canandaigua, NY for an annual group ride with friends. The Finger Lakes region is a beautiful area to explore and it always helps to have local riders as your guides.

We had Friday dinner at Doug's Fish Fry in Skaneateles, rode up to Oswego and Fort Ontario, lunch at Rudy's on the shore of the lake, ice cream outside Homer, NY, dinner in Seneca Falls and breakfast at the Belhurst Castle.

We stayed an extra day and on Sunday our host took a few of us to several of his favorite roads and spots he couldn't take a large group to: a chapel on the side of a steep bluff in the "crotch" of Keuka Lake, thru a scenic campground and a wine tasting stop at a hippy winery (for real, man). That last kind of cut the ride short for obvious reasons and we had a late lunch at another winery overlooking the lake that lasted for 2 hours while we chatted about bikes and past rides.

After returning to our motel we ended the day hanging out with our trike riding friend that joined us celebrating Pebbles' birthday and trying our best to finish off a large jug of wine we had bought.

The ride home was mercifully cool and clear. A nice 1,200 mile trip over 5 days with good roads, great friends and lasting memories!

I added a photo to our album from this trip from when we passed through Watkins Glen.

Sunday, I suppose to meet up with a old friend but said friend forgot to inform me that he wasn't going till the day after. Hooked up with a group of guys (who I had never met before) and we were off and riding. Ended up @ the White Eagle in Bunnell, Fl, a major "biker" bar near Daytona on US 1. Parted ways with my new friends and started "exploring" the roads in the area. Found Hwy 100 which took me into Flagler Beach. The weather was great, quite warm ... had to ride to keep cool. Found a Burger King in St Augustine to satisfy my hunger. Made it home JUST before the clouds opened up with Florida's daily rain squall, safe and sound. A new adventure awaits next week.

Born and raised in Seneca Falls, so I know the area QUITE well! Great roads and scenery. I was probably up in New York at the same time with my DN-01, go figure!

Any chance you knew a teacher named Tim Davies? He's lived in Seneca Falls all his life and is our ride host.

I knew a Coach Davies, never knew his first name though. He coached Mynderse Academy Football and was the gym coach. You also have to realize that I graduated in '71' and didn't keep up with the happening in Seneca Falls over the years except for visiting family.

No, this guy would be closer to your age. He just retired last year so probably graduated a year or two before you.

Saturday, 8/17/13, was a great day for a benefit ride (March of Dimes --- Bikes for Babies) held @ Baymeadows Adamec Harley Davidson. The turnout was very good --- about 150 bikes. We were escorted by 8 JSO (Jacksonville Sheriff Office) motorcycle patrol officers through 75 miles of Jacksonville highways. The ride was smooth UNTIL the last 10 minutes --- the rain came down in sheets, visibility sucked! By the time we got back to the dealership, everyone was pretty well dry ... it was a HOT day! My DN-01 got ALOT of attention considering the number of "custom" bikes that showed up for the run. People have told me that I was "special" (crazy) and now I have a bike to go with it! Saturday, marked the first time the bike had its "official" rainshower/bath since it was put on the street. And, hopefully, it's last! I do NOT like riding in the rain ... one too many bad experiences.

Looked Tim Davies up on Facebook, I sort of recognized the photo ... it has been better than 40+ years though. Truthfully, doesn't ring a bell! Sorry.

Starke Bikefest

I wanted to hookup with a few friends and ride to Starke Bikefest Sunday but they decide to go on Saturday instead. So, I went, by myself, on Sunday and had additional opportunities to explore OTHER areas nearby. The Bikefest consists mainly of vendors, food, a bike show AND plenty of musical entertainment. My Dino got a LOT of oohs and aahs, and I kept hearing: "what the heck is that?" Sorry to say, the Dino made up for all the other times it wasn't ridden in the rain! Typical Florida rain showers, I must have dealt with at least 5-6 different "squalls" on my way BACK home. The first "wetness" is the worst, after that ... who cares! There definitely is an advantage to having a "plastic" bike vice one that WILL rust! The Dino loves to cruise at 70, anything less ... it doesn't seem like it's moving! AND the traffic WILL try to "run you over" IF you go less.

Hooked up with some "new" as well as "old" friends and headed down to St Augustine via A1A for pizza. On the way down, I noticed that one of the riders' brake light was out ... roadside repair and we were off again. (Not good to be riding a bike and the brake light doesn't work especially here in Florida ... maniac drivers!) Came back on I-95, doing about 85 and a Ducati Monster passes me like I'm standing still ... damn sportbikes!! Ha Ha Ha

Meet up with the Sportbike Meetup group @ The Waffle House on the other side of town, about 10 bikes. Cruised/sped down main streets/country roads for about 90 miles. Had lunch along the Atlantic oceanside. Hot would not even describe the temperature, most comfortable part was running down the roads on the bikes! I have always been impressed with the technology incorporated in the DN-01, these sportbikes are right up there too.

Pre-Biketoberfest Run

Meet up with about 20+ riders @ the Yamaha/Suzuki dealership in town for a run down to St Augustine via the back roads. The route was about 60+ miles and because we had to travel through several stoplights, the group got split into 3 sub-groups. There had been some concern about the rain since we are in Florida, yet no rain threatened our outing. The ride took about 2 hours, the worst part being the heat waiting for the lights to change (stop-n-go). I rode tail, just in case we had any problems along the way. Everyone arrived safely! We ate at the Conch House, an oceanside restaurant, a little pricey but excellent food. Great bunch of people, just about every type of bike was on the ride. (Most of which were sportbikes, though). Looking forward to future treks via the dealership. (There was some talk about trailering the bikes and heading to the Florida Keys for a 2 day event in the future).
